Captain Jacks Summer Party

Image
Captain Jack's having another party in Denver and we're riding the Sportsters again. This year we'll be spending a little time in the Motor Palace instead of wondering if it really exists! The deal No computer, no iPad...just an iPhone and Leica X2. The blogs will be on the iPhone so pictures may be out of order and without captions. There might be more pictures of food too. Good Morning Still Life with Roach...this is what I'm doing now. How it Started First I overloaded the Sportster. I knew it looked stupid but gave it a try. We got to the gas station around the corner and knew it was a "fail." Once I removed the top bag and rigid bottom liner all was fine. I just won't have any room for souvenirs. The weather was perfect, even Needles was only 109, the rest of the desert was around 100 which really isn't bad when you're moving. We followed rain storms from Kingman to Seligman and didn't catch any 'til we were at Snow-Cap waiting for tac...

Farmer Lori

Image
Lori's learning to be a goat farmer by starting seedlings in egg shells. When they sprout she'll plant them in pots on the balcony off our breakfast room. She got the idea from friends who checked out of So-Cal and are living the dream somewhere in the Oregon Sticks. You can follow their adventures here. Meanwhile, In The Sticks . Terry and Ginger are doing it right! I'm looking forward to the Hatch Chiles. This keeps the Crows out of Lori's Farm. I finally got my hands on an Atom Pop! Atom Pop was invented in 1952 and is manufactured by QuinCraft in Bushton Kansas, USA! This is a truly amazing product. All other popcorn poppers and methods should be outlawed. Seriously this thing cooks perfect popcorn every time. Follow the instructions exactly and you can't lose and it's even easy to clean. Here's a link to  JBH Products  , they're real nice people and they have the QuinCraft connection. Order one, you'll thank me...order two they make great g...

Rising Sun, Silverado Cafe, NHRA, and Helmet Question!

Image
Mike Hodis of Rising Sun Jeans hosted a post Inspiration party Sunday with all the trimmings. Rising Sun hand crafts denim and work wear on antique sewing machines using traditional techniques and the highest quality materials. Mike's passion for quality is only rivaled by his knowledge and skill. Took the R100S out Santiago Canyon to try out the new throttle cables...they work, and had lunch at the Silverado Cafe . This place is pretty good. It reminds me of the cafes found in small towns far away from California. The waitress was real nice, the food was good, and lunch was less than $10 including coffee! I'm going to try breakfast next time. Cafe Racer Lunch Counter at Silverado Cafe I was honored to be allowed to drink from Rosemary's pretty cat mug. We got more Schott 141 Cafes and 689H Retro Horsehides. We're still waiting for  Women's One Stars. The NHRA Winter Nationals were this week and I hung around the ...

Jackets arriving and Motorcycles getting love!

Image
We got a few jackets in and had a couple appointments so I messed around in the shop while Lori went to Farmers Market. We'll have more sizes in the Women's One Star and men's 689H Retro Horsehide next week, Schott's working hard to fill post holiday orders and they're almost caught up! Here's what arrived this week: The Perfecto 125 has side laces and a two inch longer tail compared to the regular Perfectos. These are harder to find and sizes are usually limited. You can use a Sam Brown belt with it so you should budget another $75 to buy one. Schott 125 We're now stocking the 141. It's the Naked Cowhide version of their Schott's Classic Cafe Racer. Schott 141 Last but not least we're testing this Jeans Styled Naked Cowhide for warm weather use. The button front allows air in naturally without the bulk and complexity of vents. Plus it looks cool! Schott 100 I moved some battery chargers around checked on the Sh...

Happy 2013!

Image
I did a 300 mile loop through Joshua Tree for New Year's. It was a perfect day with crisp clear skies, light traffic in the AM, and a hot thermos of coffee. The temperature ranged from the high 30s to mid 50s...mostly in the 40s so it was a great opportunity to wear a heavy jacket and winter gloves. Not many pictures today because it was too cold to take the gloves and helmet off!  Lori worked. We had a nice dinner of blackened pork chops and Black Eyed peas for good luck.  The guys on the CVOs and baggers were all smiles when they rode up.  Stopped here for coffee break. I stayed on the sidewalk. The coffee stayed hot...until about 30 seconds after I poured it in the cup! That's a Joshua Tree A warm jacket! The quality of this B-3 is why we're a  Schott  dealer. Thanks everyone for making 2012 great. Let's do it a gain in 2013! Bonus shots from the end of 2012 Christmas shopping at Deuss Ex Machina . Go...
